Personal Loan vs Loan Against Property: Which Should You Choose?
BharatBest Editorial · 5 min read · 17 August 2026

A personal loan is unsecured: no collateral, quick processing, but higher interest rates and shorter tenures (typically up to 5 years). It suits smaller, urgent requirements where speed matters.
A loan against property (LAP) is secured by your residential or commercial property. Because the lender's risk is lower, rates are significantly lower, tenures can extend to 15–20 years, and eligible amounts are much larger. The trade-off: processing takes longer due to valuation and legal checks, and your property is at risk if you default.
Choose a personal loan for needs up to a few lakhs that you can repay within 3–5 years. Consider LAP for large, long-horizon requirements — business expansion, education abroad, or major expenses — where the lower rate meaningfully reduces total interest.
Whichever you choose, compare the total cost of borrowing (interest + fees), not just the EMI. Our advisors can run both scenarios for your profile.
